Submit your homework and extra credit to [email protected] with the subject "FF – HW5 – HOL ID" or "FF – EC5 – HOL ID." Please submit your homework and your extra credit SEPARATELY, with your HOL name and ID somewhere in the email. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. The due date for the assignment is January 15. (I use this email for two Faery Tale related classes. So please label the work so I know which of the homework is which!). There are NO EXTENSIONS for this homework assignment.
Homework (maximum possible 30 points)
There are a number of options here, but you only need to do 30 points' worth. Anything over and I won't be counting them for extra credit (yeah, I see what you're trying to do...)
Word Scrambler (10 points) - 2 points each
These are all words found in the lesson. (Hint: Not everything is one word).
Fill-in-the-Blanks (10 points) - 1 point each
Matching (10 points) - 2 points each
Below are a number of words that identify the location or method that these faery charmers are associated with. Determine which creature matches the methods indicated per line. Note: Be careful, some of them are similar, but no creature should repeat.
Picture Perfect (20 points) - 2 points each
Below are 10 square shots of pictures that were provided in the lessons. Identify what kind of faery it is AND determine what classification (Seelie, Trooping, Undine, etc.) it falls under.

Note: Your classification for a number of these creatures can be different from where I've put them in the lesson, within reason (example: Sluagh would be a Trooping Faery but it can also be a faery from the Unseelie Court, whereas a Dwarf can be a Trooping Faery and can also be a faery of the Gnome Element).

Extra Credit (30 points)
Choose ONE (1) of the following:
A) There is an uncanny resemblance of the Reynardine story to the Grimms tale of "The Robber Bridegroom." I have included two things below: one is a PDF of a version of the Grimm's "The Robber Bridegroom," and the other is an excerpt from Terri Windling's essay on Bluebeard (it is a summary of the English variant, that of Reynardine). Summarize the tales in your own words, then compare and contrast the two versions. 300 words minimum.

B) Changelings pretty much come in all shapes and sizes. In the Philippines, a child could be easily taken to the spirit world and in its place the spirit creatures would place a pile of banana trunks to pose as a mortal child. If you were asked to draw your depiction of a faery changeling, what would he/she/it look like? ORIGINAL WORK PLEASE.
C) You are a bard or an artist taking a walk in the forest. Suddenly, you catch a glimpse of movement to your side, and you see a woman chatting up this strange, cloaked man. You think to yourself: "Ohmigosh that must be Tam Lin!" And you'd probably be right, because the woman is beginning to succumb to his charms and you, the watcher, can feel the magic in the atmosphere. If you are a bard, write an account of the encounter between the woman and Tam Lin in however form you see fit. If you are an artist, well, find some artistic medium (drawing, painting, Photoshop, etc.) to portray what you saw in the forest.
All graphics must be uploaded to an image server like Photobucket or Imageshack. I'd prefer not to open attachments, please and thank you!
D) Don't you love these? It's logic puzzle time! These faeries mean business, and they're experts at what they do. And what they do is charm the pants off of the poor mortals. They will use anything and everything to do so. In fact, they've gotten so creative, the methods they use to lure their victims have broadened. And they are frequently successful. In fact, they just landed their next five victims with their foolproof methods! Of course, in order for them to vary their pool of victims, these charmers also had to broaden their locations. With this in mind, determine the name of the charmer, the victim captured, the successful method used, and the location where the capturing took place (one of which was the mountains).

- The Ielles, who didn't capture Ryan, didn't use the trail of cake crumbs to lure her victim. Reynardine moved his new headquarters to the lake but he didn't use his usual method of good old fashioned winking to capture the victim.
- The Hulder captured Zoki but they weren't inside a castle. The dark forest was said to have been filled with a beautiful voice singing to cheesy pop music.
- The faery who captured Rhiannon lured her into a cave.
- The Glaistig did not capture Silmarien. The faery that sashayed her hips managed to catch Mark's eye but he wasn't captured in the forest.
- The five faeries were the Erlking, the faery that captured Silmarien, the one who captured the victim in the forest, the one who used good old fashioned winking as a method, and the faery who lured the captive into the castle.
- Ryan is a sucker for good old fashioned winking and of course he would fall for it. The Erlking didn't whisper sweet nothings to capture his victim.
