Okay, when I read this option, I immediately knew this was the one I had to do. You've read at least one Fablehaven novel, so you know that Seth is prone to trouble, especially of the fairy/otherworldly kind. So it should come as no surprise to you (or to anyone, really) that I chose to describe one of the many incidents during which Seth Sorenson walks into a magical trap.
In the fifth and final novel, Keys to the Demon Prison, Seth has become a shadow charmer, which means he can sense, bond with, and understand the darker magical creatures, such as revenants (fear-inducing wraiths), demons, and trolls. In previous novels, he'd attracted the attention of an ailing, dying demon named Graulas, who was interested in Seth because of his unique shadow-charming abilities. Seth paid Graulas many visits, but one day, he sensed Graulas calling him, so he met him at his cave. The demon was very close to dying but wanted to teach Seth the last bit of skills and information he would need as a shadow charmer. Seth started to feel bad for Graulas but could do nothing except let the demon expire alone, as he wished.
So he went on with his life, tracking down the five objects needed to keep the demon prison secure and locked, in a race against time and the sanctuaries' enemies (Society of the Evening Star). One of the objects has the ability to heal even those on the brink of death, and when Fablehaven successfully procures it to hide it, Seth steals it in the middle of the night and travels to Graulas' cave with the noble though stupid intention of healing the demon. Seth believed that Graulas genuinely liked him and would be grateful. But when Seth sprinkles the healing sands on the ailing demon, he quickly regains his strength and health and slams Seth into the wall of the cave, leading to many bone fractures and internal bleeding. Graulas stands over Seth's crippled form and laughs, informing the boy that he feigned interest because he knew if he taught Seth shadow-charming, he could control him and persuade him to use the healing sands on him. Graulas then sprinkles the healing sands on Seth and leaves to help his evil friends open the demon prison. Way to go, Seth Sorenson.
